Using Paint Shop Pro and Tubes.

Starting Point

Creating a Transparent Gif

I might as well get one thing understood. I am not a graphic artist. A graphic artist is just that, an artist and his work needs to be appreciated and respected. Please, do not use anyones artwork that is copyrighted or not allowed to be used without their consent. If you can use their work but they ask you to mention their name or add a link to their pages on your website and you can not find that artwork from somewhere else where it is free then PLEASE respect that artists wishes.

What I am is a complete newbie when it comes to graphics but one thing I have learned is that anyone can create great buttons with Paint Shop Pro (known as PSP) and some FREE-TO-USE graphics and FREE-TO-USE PSP tubes. You will be amazed at how much is free out there and ready to be used by your imagination. Practiclly no artistic talent is needed. Once you see how easy it is to create a graphic you will go beyond creating graphics for your Ikonboard and expand to your entire website. Be carefull though since I have discovered that finding and installing tubes leads to creating your own tubes (another tutorial on this website) can become very addicting.

Before you go any further there are a couple things. If you do not have the required progams as stated below then just click on the link and I will either automatically send to you or send you to the website so you can get it. Also, if you do not know how to do a certain function I have tried to have a seperate tutorial open in a seperate window. Hope this helps. So, this tutorial is assuming you ...
  1. have downloaded and installed the program Paint Shop Pro (PSP) from www.jasc.com (32 Megs)
  2. Downloaded the two example tubes WinXP and Gel_Buttons from my website
  3. installed the two tubes (how to install tubes)
  4. know how to copy and paste
  5. know how to crop

I will be referring to a few items on the PSP quickview toolbar. I have labelled them here to help you associate with them.
